Our Mind Is Our Greatest Asset and Greatest Obstacle

Meditation/mindfulness practice is fitness training for the mind, strengthening our mental muscles of attention management and emotional regulation. Maintaining mental wellbeing is like keeping your body fit or looking after your teeth.

Your mind is as important as your body or your teeth!

Our mind is involved in everything we do. It governs how we think, how we feel, how we perceive, how we experience and engage with life.
Our mind forms the basis of our character and personality, our relationships and our happiness.
Our state of mind determines the way we feel about our self and it affects our physical health all the way down to the level of our DNA and expression of our genes.

Our mind contains endless possibilities and powers, but when left unchecked it can behave like a wild animal - restless, loud, uncontrollable and not present.

Regular Meditation/Mindfulness Practice Is Shown To:

  • Reduce stress through reduced amygdala activity, thus reduced triggering of the fight/flight aka stress response

  • Increase self-awareness

  • Increase self-regulation of attention allowing us to focus with less mind-wandering or distraction

  • Increase self-regulation of emotion enabling us stay calm under pressure

  • Enhance memory and retention of information

  • Increase effectiveness and learning

  • Decrease negative emotion and self-belief

  • Decrease bias through increased compassion and connection with self and others

Increasing mental calm reduces mental stress, anxiety, impulsivity, depression and symptoms of attention deficit and panic disorder.

Regular meditation practice improves physical health by improving sleep quality, immune function and the body’s natural healing capacity, metabolism and digestion, heart health, energy levels, weight loss, self-awareness, body-image, oxytocin, serotonin and other happy-hormone production, effectiveness and performance while slowing the ageing process, lowering blood pressure and stress-related problems like headaches, ulcers, inflammation and pain.

Regular meditation practice increases emotional well-being, balance, self-regulation and strength. Regular practice increases self-awareness, self-esteem, self-acceptance, optimism, positive outlook on life, connection to self and others, engagement, teamwork and communication.
