What a roller coaster of a ride we’ve all been on these last 18 months …
While it’s been quiet from me in 2021, I’ve been beavering away, riding a wave of momentum and interest in meditation, mindfulness, and building wellbeing and resilience after a covid-enforced quiet 2020. Thanks to the basic income experiment that was JobKeeper, I was able to use the downtime last year to invest in my own meditation practice without the stress of wondering how I was going to pay the bills.
That investment is paying off this year with me able to support a number of people who have found themselves struggling in one way or another to cope with the uncertainty, anxiety and pressure of post-pandemic, modern life, especially those living in lockdown.
What have a I learned that may assist others? Well for one, I’ve seen again and again how listening for and following my own inner guidance never lets me down. Even when my rational mind is unsure of the best way forward, my inner wisdom - in other words, my intuition - always knows the best way to my ideal outcome.
I have no doubt now that the rational mind is very good at retro-fitting logical reasons for the decisions we make. However, I just don’t think the linear mind has the perspective or capacity for knowing what is truly in our best interests and how to proceed to achieve it. That is the domain of the deeper, wiser part of ourself, that non-rational part of ourself that whispers quietly, needs no recognition or credit, wants the best for all not just ourself and never gives up on us even when we ignore it.
The beauty is we all possess this deeper, wiser part of self, a tireless, beloved friend offering guidance and care at every turn, never leaving us, never falling into despair. The challenge is to create enough mental space to hear it, to feel it, to sense it, to see the signs or however we receive its messages of love.
I see this over and over again, with clients, family, friends and in my own experience, the more we trust our inner guidance to deliver us to our goals, the easier and faster we get there. If we can only get ourselves - the little me - out of the way, that is our hardwired patterns of thinking and feeling, our conditioned reliance on our logical, rational mind and our incessant monkey mind, we can open up the space to receive insight from our inner wisdom.
Follow your bliss, go with your gut, let your intuition guide you, trust your inner wisdom and guidance. The hardest part is receiving and believing. All the more reason to meditate!
